Our apologizes, but at this time we are unable to offer you our mall gift cards. New Nova Scotia regulations, which took effect on February 1st, no longer allow us to provide our gift cards. Our gift cards were a "bank product" which enabled them to be redeemed at almost all of our retailers at the mall. Mall gift cards had no front end fees. The only fee consumers paid for on these cards was a bank fee of $2.50 per month on any balance remaining on a gift card 15 months after the date of activation. These fees were never hidden and were always disclosed to our customers.
96% of all gift card funds were redeemed prior to the 15 months by our customers through the retailers of their choice making the program free to these customers.
We support consumer protection; however, mall gift cards are much different than single store gift cards. In order to keep gift cards secured and held by a bank, fees are required, similar to fees that you might expect to pay on a bank account. The Government’s recent regulation has forced us to discontinue our program and look to an alternative product that will have greater fees that are charged to 100% of our customers.
